Types of mattresses

What are the different types of mattresses? This table compares mattress options based on their features and how they feel.

Mattress Features How it Feels

Memory foam mattresses absorb your weight and contour to your body. They’re designed with therapeutic needs in mind. These mattresses typically have a part-memory foam/part-spring construction for optimal support.

How it Feels

Like a hug from your mattress. These mattresses conform to the body and feel cushioned and supportive.

Mattress

Pocket spring mattresses have hundreds of springs sewn into individual pockets. This design helps to support your body weight and keep your spine in alignment. The pocket springs provide extra support and allow you to move around without disturbing your partner.

Coil mattresses have been around for decades and remain a popular mattress today. They come in three main varieties: continuous coil, open-coil and offset coils. These mattresses are best suited to those sleeping solo, as single coils move together, causing partner disturbance.

How it Feels

It depends on the individual product, but these mattresses are typically less body responsive. They also usually have a top layer made from latex or memory foam for extra comfort.

Mattress

Hybrid

What is the best mattress for your back? If you suffer from back pain, the best mattress for you will depend upon your sleeping position.

What's better a soft or firm mattress?

Whether you opt for a firm or soft mattress should come down to personal preference, sleep position and therapeutic needs. Is a firm mattress better for your back? While firmness and support are related, they’re two separate variables. For instance, a high-quality, medium-soft memory foam mattress will provide more support than an old, firm spring mattress.

What are the benefits of sleeping on a firm mattress?

Firm or medium-firm mattresses provide exceptional support for the joints and spine. The firm surface helps to keep your spine in a neutral position. Throughout the night, this relieves pressure on your upper and lower back.

How will my mattress be delivered?

We want the delivery of your new mattress to be as simple and hassle-free as possible. All of our mattresses are delivered by courier. The mattress itself will either be conveniently rolled and vacuumed sealed into a box on wheels for ease of transport or it will be delivered in standard form, depending on the mattress type and make.

How can you sell your mattresses at such a low price?

We are committed to providing the highest quality mattresses at the best possible prices. We work directly with industry-leading manufacturers we trust, allowing us to essentially cut out the middlemen. Some of our mattresses are also compressed using the latest technology, which helps to significantly cut transport and storage costs.

Can I really return my mattress within 120 days?

You sure can! However, we ask that you give the mattress a go for at least 14 days before deciding it’s not for you. This is because a new mattress can take some time to get used to sleeping on. We also ask that, if you do return it, the mattress is in nearly new condition so that we can donate it to charity. It’s not possible to re-package the mattress, but we ask that you wrap it in something (even some old clean sheets) for transport. Don’t worry, we’ll cover pickup costs, too. That’s postage covered both ways.

How long is the warranty?

Your mattress comes complete with a 10-year warranty, covering any possible defects that may occur within those 10-years. We generally recommend not keeping a mattress any longer than 10-years as it can be unhygienic and, over that period, your sleeping needs maychange.

How often should you change your mattress?

How often you should change your mattress will depend on various factors, including the quality of your mattress, the type of mattress you have and your sleep habits. For optimal health, The Sleep Foundation recommends that you change your mattress either every six to eight years or when it’s negatively affecting your sleep due to sagging, noise, pain or allergies.

How long does a mattress last?

Without a doubt, higher quality mattresses hold up better with time. If you're wondering whether mattresses get softer over time, you might be surprised to find that they don’t necessarily get ‘softer’ but they do lose their support. This is when back pain tends to occur.

How to wash a mattress?

It’s important to have a mattress cleaning routine to avoid the build up of dirt, stains, odours, sweat, dust mites and bacteria on your mattress. Prevention is key and a waterproof mattress protector is recommended. Air out your mattress regularly and conduct a deep clean every six months with a natural product such as baking soda. Liberally sprinkle baking soda on your bare mattress and allow it to soak for an hour or so. Vacuum up the mess and spot-clean any problem areas.
